He pleaded guilty in April in Anne Arundel County to sexually abusing seven boys at his home in Gingerville or at a Crownsville nudist club. He faces a maximum of 45 years in prison when he's sentenced next month.

Loren J. Williams, the convicted child molester and Annapolis-area property owner, who has been accused of bilking people out of their homes in mortgage foreclosure scams, is now facing federal charges of videotaping sexual encounters with two boys.

Williams, 44, was arraigned Friday in Baltimore on two counts of sexually exploiting minors for the purpose of producing videotapes, to which he pleaded not guilty. He could face 30 years in prison if convicted.

A federal grand jury indicted Williams in April, alleging he videotaped an encounter with one boy in August 2002 and another in August 2003. Both were in Worcester County, where police say Williams took several boys for sexual encounters.

Trial is set for Aug. 22.

He pleaded guilty in April in Anne Arundel County to sexually abusing seven boys at his home in Gingerville or at a Crownsville [Pine Tree] nudist club. He faces a maximum of 45 years in prison when he's sentenced next month.

Police say he also took some of the boys - ages 11 to 13 when the abuse started - to Ocean City, Disney World and a ski resort. Williams still faces criminal charges in Worcester County, as well as civil lawsuits alleging he preyed on people who were about to lose their homes to foreclosure.

In court Friday, a federal prosecutor said Williams, who has real estate holdings, might have lied about his financial assets in an affidavit seeking to have a public defender represent him.

"My information is that the defendant is not indigent and in fact is the exact opposite," said Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew G.W. Norman.

But U.S. Magistrate Judge Susan K. Gauvey agreed to appoint a federal public defender, noting that Williams has been in jail for more than a year.

She gave Williams the warning all defendants hear: "If you lie to the court about your finances, you can be charged with perjury."

John Chun, Williams' lawyer, declined to comment after the hearing. He said in court that although Williams has financial assets including a home and stock he owns with his wife, his liabilities - including a $250,000 judgment he was ordered to pay to a Millersville couple that he engaged in a home mortgage scam - outweigh the assets.
